Outreach Programs

Coral Cantigas has the following outreach programs to cultivate and encourage an appreciation of and participation in the Latin American choral arts, providing affordability and accessibility to all families.

FREE NIÑOS

Since 2001, Coral Cantigas provides free tickets for niños—children—12 & under for families that want to:

1. Introduce their children to their cultural heritage, and/or
2. Expand the horizons of their children, a window into another culture through choral music.

MúSICA PARA TODOS

Since 1999, Music For Everyone provides up to 10% of the tickets free of charge to individuals who cannot afford to come our concerts. Coupons to be exchanged for free tickets are distributed though social service and community organizations on a first-come-first-served basis until the tickets are claimed.

SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR HAITI AND CHILE

Coral Cantigas, Washington’s premier Latino chorus, collected $2,449 for the Haiti and Chile Relief efforts during its recent Canto y Poesía: Songs of Freedom concert. We decided to forward these funds to those in need through the American Red Cross International Response Fund.

HELP PROMOTE YOUTH AND CHILDREN'S ORCHESTRAS IN CHILE

Cantigas and the Embassy of Chile have joined forces to help the Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Chile Foundation, which funds the orchestral movement with direct support to youth and children of low-income families (underserved population).

The public schools in Chile, as in most of Latin America, provide minimal or no music education. The mission of the Youth and Children's Orchestras of Chile Foundation is to elevate the social, cultural, and educational development of Chile by creating opportunities to improve the quality of life of youth and children while helping them make beautiful music together. Since 1991, the Foundation has helped create more than 190 orchestras all around Chile. This program prevents child labor, provides equal opportunity, improves self-esteem, and promotes cultural development in the communities it serves.  The Foundation’s archives serve everyone, Chilean or not, interested in the acquisition of music and/or study methods for the various instruments.
