Celebrating the increasing US-Cuba understanding, Cantigas presents a sampling of Cuba’s rich and diverse choral traditions. Savor the works of contemporary, Cuban composers Beatriz Corona, Roberto Valera, and Calixto Alvarez; traditional and folk music; and reverent Santeria chants. Cantigas also explores connections between English and Spanish poetic traditions with two choral suites inspired by iconic poets Shakespeare and Cervantes: Three Shakespeare Songs by R. Vaughan Williams and Three Epitaphs (For the Tomb of Don Quixote, For the Tomb of Dulcinea, and For the Tomb of Sancho Panza) by Spanish composer Rodolfo Halffter.
