ABOUT CANTIGAS:  www.cantigas.org

Coral Cantigas, better known as “Cantigas”  is prized for presenting rare and exciting Latin American and Spanish works that are unpublished in the US, and also for its cross-cultural integration and collaborations with U.S. mainstream and international artists. Founded by Artistic Director Diana Sáez, DMA, Cantigas is the only chorus in the region–and one of few in the country–of its kind. Cantigas features multicultural singers who perform a rich blend of Latin American and Spanish contemporary and classical music, with interpretations of traditional folk music that incorporate exciting, sophisticated arrangements. Every concert features its own theme and repertoire that weaves a tapestry of diverse musical styles and features collaborations with distinguished artists. Our rare brand of “edutainment” explores the convergence of indigenous, Spanish, Portuguese and African cultures in Latin America that gave birth to a vast collection of songs, infectious rhythms and beautiful harmonies. Cantigas presents distinctive performances in prestigious concert halls, museums and festivals across the region and has performed internationally. The chorus enjoys loyal, cross-over audiences that are half Hispanic/Latino, and half from mainstream American backgrounds and has received numerous nominations for the Wammies (Washington Area Music Awards.) Cantigas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the awareness and appreciation of the many rich styles of Latino choral music, and uniting communities through the joyful and transformative power of music.
