Magalie Salas

Magalie Salas, Executive Director, was a singer with Cantigas’s soprano section from 2008 through 2011 and chaired Cantigas’s 20th Anniversary Gala held in April 2011.  Originally from Gurabo, Puerto Rico, Ms. Salas is a graduate of Trinity Washington University (B.A.) and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D.),  and she is a member of the District of Columbia Bar.  

Ms. Salas began her legal and management career in the federal government as a legislative attorney in the Community Services Administration.  She moved on to the Federal Communications Commission, where she developed considerable experience in broadcast issues, regulatory enforcement, and legal matters pertaining to the internal administration of the Commission.  Her tenure at the FCC concluded in 2001, after five years of top-level management experience as Secretary of the Federal Communications Commission.  In 2002, Ms. Salas was admitted to the federal government’s prestigious Senior Executive Service, and appointed Secretary of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.  In this capacity, Ms. Salas reported directly to the Chairman of the agency and provided leadership and direction in all matters pertaining to the Commission’s decision-making process.

As Cantigas’s executive director, Ms. Salas has participated in arts and financial management seminars sponsored by Chorus America and the Financial Reporting and Management Institute of Nonprofit Montgomery.  In addition, Ms. Salas is a member of the Marketing Committee of the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.

Ms. Salas speaks English and Spanish fluently and sings with the Multicultural Choir of Saint Camillus Catholic Church, Silver Spring, MD, where she has been a cantor since 1993.
